Design Inspirations

A thing of beauty is a joy forever; its loveliness increases - it will never pass into nothingness.
- John Keats

This often repeated quote springs to mind whenever we behold the latest Prima collection we've featured on our blog two weeks back. Such beauty, however, can only be appreciated more when it's put to good use, and not merely left among our scrapbook pile to gather dust or to be outshone by an even newer range of much heralded collections.

That is why we are so thrilled to present to you our latest Design Inspirations created by no less than our Resident Designer/Teacher Lani Bin Haider.

Lani, as most Paper Lane regulars know, is the creative mind, heart and soul of Paper Lane. Her love of scrapbooking stemmed from a need to document the fun and memorable growing up years of each of her children in ways that would withstand the test of time. Thus, she took up the craft of scrapbooking, which uses acid-free, lignin-free and archival papers and materials that would preserve her family's photos for generations to come.

Her style veers towards sophistication/elegance, wherein the layouts appear as classic and very formal. But with the profusion of intense, bold and dramatic colors in Prima's new range, she has evolved into hipness and modernity never before seen in her previous works.

Why not read on and see for yourself?

The title sums up in two words the role that her darling daughter Alia plays in her life - her jewel, the crown in her treasures. Layout is made from Prima's Fairy Flora collection- paper , flowers and journaling tag; Martha Stewart Punches; American Crafts Thickers.

And here's a gorgeous card she created using the dreamy Fairy Flora:

Flowers are from Fairy tale collection; Martha Stewart Doily Lace Puncher; Rub-ons and Journaling chipboard sticker from Fairy Flora.

This is a lovely layout of Lani's entire family from their holiday in Austria. Prima's Road Trip collection was used from the paper to the journaling tags and accents. Note the faux stitches borders complementing the alternate stripes of the "air mail envelope". Looks so sweet and warm, doesn't it?

Here's a simple and cute card using the 6x6 paper pad from Road Trip collection, accented by the grass and fence from Martha Stewart Punchers. Letter sticker is from My Littleshoe Box.

These moments are what memories are made of. Layout of Lani's 3 precocious kids is comprised of different papers from Prima's Paisley Road collection including rub-ons and flowers. Note the clever use of pink Journal Tags from the same line as a matting for her photos. Creative accents provided by Sizzix leaves die, Martha stewart butterfly punch and the strategic stamping on corners, as well as the use of glimmer mist.

Here's the matching card using the Paisley Road papers and chipboard accent; Sizzix die leaves, Fiskars punches. Indeed breathtakingly beautiful, isn't it?

Here's a very simple but effective way to highlight the Jack & Jill Collection - put 2 siblings together, have a cam nearby, and click away their joys at being together!

Marvel at this dainty and delicate card made from the same collection. The pearl swirls perfectly complemented the intricate white lace detail, and Martha Stewart lace puncher added to the elegant touch. Simply stylish, right?

Here's the final layout that made use of Prima's Analee collection - the serenity and idyll of Austria's famed vacation resort Zel Am See is captured using Sonnet papers. Symphony Blend flowers and the exquisite string of pearls to complete the feminine look. Please note the clever quarter-circle hand stitched thread that brought out the azure skies and the lake.

Truly, Lani has outdid herself this time! These layouts and cards are so splendidly resplendent that we're just inspired to create one right now :). If you would like to learn more of her techniques, or of her constantly evolving style, please give us a call at 04-3443633 so you may arrange to attend one of her classes.
