Hello everyone!

We know it's been sometime since our last post , so we'd like to apologize to everyone for missing us! (we sure hope you do!☺) We've been updating our FB page anyhow, so please do drop by and visit our site from time to time (and LIKE us, if you still haven't!☺)

As promised on our FB page, we are now featuring the series of birthday parties that we've hosted recently, and we'll start with beauteous Mariam's!

The colors purple and pink were central to her birthday theme, and what a beautiful party hers turned out to be! Her lovely mum and the rest of her family and friends (with the help of Paper Lane and Sweet Lane of course) spared no effort to ensure that this would turn out to be her best birthday celebration ever!

The next photos are of pretty Tara's birthdays! Yes, sweet Tara had celebrated her special day with us for these past two years! She and her friends did a layout class for the first year, and came back for an altered house class for the second! Much thanks to you, Tara, and your family for always spending your birthdays with us!

And to conclude, we have adorable Jaahnvi's birthday photos to feast our eyes on! With pink as her central theme, Jaahnvi and her friends did an altered house with mini album included. Capped off with scrumptious cupcakes from Sweet Lane, the party concluded with her entire family joining in the fun and excitement of a Paper Lane birthday party!

Paper Lane Welcomes the New Year with a Smile!☺

Have a happy and blessed 2012, dear crafters !

We do hope you greeted the new year with lots and lots of SMILEs on your faces, as our outlook and mood for today should hopefully dictate our demeanor for the rest of the year, and what a fabulous year it will be if we are to greet each day with a wide, big grin on our faces!

Just see what we mean with these precocious bunch of kids who were the latest batch to participate on our annual winter workshop held on December last year (whoa! that sounded like eons ago :p)

These kids worked with several projects, which included Scrapbooking on Canvas, Mini Book and Interactive Card-Making. They definitely had a blast, if the sweet smiles on their faces are anything to go by.

At the end of the workshop, they were individually presented with a certificate to vouch for their hard work!

We sure do hope these kids would nurture their love for crafting and would turn out to be such creative and talented artists in the future !

May we all have a prolific and amazing time paper-crafting in 2012 !!!

My Mind's Eye Nostalgic Lost and Found Christmas Collection by Marina

Hello dear crafters !

Quite a wintry weather were having right now in Dubai right ? There cant possibly be a more pleasant time for families to meet up, go out and shop for Christmas presents for your friends and loved ones.

Have you all been to Paper Lane yet? This collection is just superb!! Love, love, love working with it! Super rich colors setting up Christmas mood instantly.. Layout came up in one second – I used sketch as a base. I used Christmas poem by Bernard Howe and a stock photograph. I had to work on the photo a bit in the Photoshop to adjust the colors, to mute them a bit. And I found myself one again using buttons, cotton lace and doily.. For the card I used all leftovers I had after creating the page!!

Festive Webster's Layout from Jennifer

To continue with our feature on Webster's Pages Design Inspirations, let's take a look at how our DT Jennifer made merry use of the All About Me collection!☺

While I love Webster's Pages papers, I do find their beauty a little intimidating; there are so many lovely images around the outside edges of the papers that I don't like to cut into them! This time I cut up some elements and also used the reverse of some papers. Both layouts feature photos from my recent trip to the Netherlands.

Market Day in Maastricht

I placed all four photos on a mat of "Love the journey", added a red measuring strip element from "This is me" and also cut the half circle for the journalling from "This is me" and matted it on the green reverse side of "My story". The paper at the bottom with the silhouettes is "Look within", and the little house, which is really the main embellishment, came from the reverse of "This is me".. Left this page quite simple because the photos are busy and colourful.

Me & my shadow

These are photos of my youngest son and his little cousin, who took to following him everywhere while we were visiting. I started with a base of "My story" and "Look within" and then added the photos on a mat of the light blue "Looking ahead" paper. The coloured measuring strips are from "You're timeless". I cut a spare piece of one of the papers into a tag shape for the journalling tag, which sits behind the photo mat and carries half of the title lettering. The title letters are also Webster's Pages (Storytellers). Because it was more of a "boy" page, I struggled with the embellishing on this one but eventually went with Maya Road chipboard scrolls which I inked with one of my chalkboard catseye inkpads, and I added a few pieces of clear plastic clock faces (also Maya Road). I finished with a selection of Prima flowers in colours that would complement the red, green and blue in the layout.

Webster's Design Inspirations from Lidiya

Hello, paper crafters!
The moment I saw this paper from Webster's Pages "Lets Celebrate" Collection I knew what I will do with it and strangely enough it was not a card. I needed a paper to scrapbook the pictures of Raya's first day at school and this cute red and orange design came just on time. There is nothing school related in the collection which is all about parties and celebrations, but somehow it matched my idea and photo colours perfectly. All elements on the page are Silhouette die cuts. (I always reach for my Silhouette when I need something quick and easy :)).

The clouds are inked with Broken China Distess Ink, while the title is coloured with Broken China Distress Stain. Easy and fun! The sun and stars were also plain white cardstock before I used the Wild Honey Distress Stain to colour them. I added some patterned papers for my journaling and adhered Japanese patterned tape just for some fun. Of course, I could not keep my hands away from the Glossy Accent, so I added some glossy shine to the sun and stars. And in case you wonder why there are clouds and rain on my first day of school layout, it's because of the school's behavioral system. :))

The collection did not speak cards to me, but I'm grateful since it inspired me to get out of my comfort zone and try new things. I found the blue patterned paper just perfect for the pillow case box I wanted to try for quite some time. The shape is from the free images that come with the Silhouette, while the flower ribbon slider is a freebie from Kerri Bradford. After the Silhouette did its job, what was left for me was only to ink up the edges of the pillow case with Weathered Wood (my current Distress Ink favourite) and distress the flower edges with the same to make them pop up. As easy as that.

Once I tried the pillow case box, I could not stop myself and made another box. This time a small one which would be perfect for some jewellery. The same techniques here. I just finished it off with a delicate Prima Flower.

Hello Scrappers!

Below we bring you the amazing layout done by our DT Marina using Western Romance Collection.

I loved the papers and again my imagination started working on.. I knew straight from the beginning I will make one page about my childhood. The papers inspired me, especially Line Dance paper. I remembered my childhood, lots of dresses, my friends, spirit of the time, even smell of my grandma pies!!!.. And I wanted to experiment this time. As a result of my experimentation the layout “My childhood” was created. I extracted image of me as a girl from an old photo using Abode Photoshop. Printed and cut it out. I arranged 6 “blocks” for journaling where I mentioned my favorite memories of my childhood. The page turned out to be quite naïve and simple but convey the message well. It was one of my experiments..

The page “Letters”. This page I did not plan at all. It came out by itself. It is about my great granddad’s common book and me being lucky owner of it. I scanned and printed (decreased in size) 3 pages of my great granddad’s common book and started layering all the elements (all leftovers) together. I had one 1 paper left by that time and some cuts out. And interestingly enough I like this page so much more than first. And again I could not help myself but go into heritage style. That is on my mind right now..

I used Lost & Found 2 Rosy “Ordinary” Adventure paper … applied Gesso especially where the glittery area – just to give a bit of shabby look effect.

Today we are featuring the new My Mind's Eye Lost & Found 2 Blush Collection. I was really excited when I saw my papers and had to finally admit to myself that even though I've been trying so hard to avoid pink all my life, I really love that colour! And Blush is all about pinks and reds and occasional, but very charming green. The collection is innocent and pastel and in the same time bold and bright. My paper crafter's heart could not but love it. It's truly versatile and can be used for so many different occasions. You can go girly (as in my Always Friends layout), plush and shiny (Find joy every day), vintage (Thank you card) or romantic (Butterflies card).

To continue our feature on the design inspirations for our new arrivals from My Mind's Eye, let's take a look at what our DT member Jennifer had created with her MME Lost and Found Two "Sunshine" collection:

These papers were so easy to create with because of the colour palette: yellow and teal is one of my most favourite combinations, and I had exactly the right pictures to use, from a recent holiday in the Netherlands with my mother, visiting my sister and her family.

This is a tribute to my mother, who has been a huge support to me recently. The journaling is hidden on the tag peeking out at the top of the photo mat. This layout came together very quickly, and is one of my “go to” designs for two landscape oriented photos. The whole design of the page was centred around the lovely cut out portion of the Sunshine Memories Sweet paper. The photos themselves are layered over pieces of Lovely Plaid and Memories Blossoms. The ribbon trims are a mix of what I already had (the teal lace is Paper Lane); the alpha letters are from My Little Shoebox (both sizes), and the vellum butterfly is Jenni Bowlin. I actually wanted to use more flowers, but yellow and teal flowers are not common, so I just scattered a few buttons in those colours from my stash to finish off, and made a few green leaves to layer underneath the yellow rose in the cut out title panel.

First Ice Cream Cone

This is my niece Paige, who experienced her very first ice cream cone when we were on a day trip to the town of Valkenburg. As soon as I saw the papers, I knew they would work with these pictures because of the colour she was wearing. I used Sunshine Memories Sweet, Adore, Lovely Sewing, Forever Dotted and a little piece of Lovely Plaid. The Forever Dotted is what gives the scalloped border under the photos (I cut around the circles). The letter stickers are My Little Shoebox (large) and Making Memories (blue ledger). As a final touch I added the Sunshine title card at the bottom with a Paper Lane teal grosgrain ribbon. All papers were inked along the edges with Tea Dye distress ink.

What a lovely combination of colors you've got there, Jennifer! Such a sweet and quaint layout to feature the people you care about!☺

Hello paper crafters!

As our Design Team members are back from their summer holidays, we are so excited to show you their design inspirations - this time using our new arrivals from My Mind's Eye - that are literally brimming with fresh creative energy!

We'll start off this series with the MME projects of our DT member, Marina Velichko. Read on and be inspired!

I was given My Mind’s Eye Breeze Collection by PaperLane and my first impression was – these are fantastic papers, great for heritage style!!.. Some of the papers already look like finished pages – just to add photos and journaling.. And I decided to take advantage of it.. For both of my pages and a card I used those papers which already have decorative borders, labels and decorations..

It is one of my favorite scrapbooking styles – heritage style, scrapbooking layouts with black and white old photos and stories from old days and old generations.. I was very lucky to inherit my granny’s photo album, which is a real treasure for me. Now I live in different country and I think it is important for my new family, my son to know what was happening those days and who is on those photos..

"One beautiful spring day"
Tools and materials:
Patterned papers: My Mind’s Eye (Breeze “Dream” Stamped Paper, Breeze “Precious” Motif Paper, Breeze “Everywhere” Mirrors Paper).
Tools: Blending tool with foam, Distress inks (Antique linen, Vintage photo), Transparency film for ink-jet printers, Epson printer, Crop-a-Dile Corner Chomper (We R Memory Keepers).
Others: lace, ribbon.

Page “One beautiful spring day”. The story in this page is about one day of spring in 1951 just day before a victory day anniversary. Those years – just after the end of the second world war.. All the men are wearing military uniforms. Tough years but happy years.. My granny with her family – my granddad, my mom and my aunt were living in Ukraine and granny’s brother came to visit them and spend there his holidays. They went to park, played games, had lunch in café and ice-cream. It was a great time – they were very happy.. Title and journaling I decided to do in Russian – this way I could express myself better. I had 7 photos – original size (of course, I made colored copy of originals) and not enough space to accommodate all of them. I could not choose “the better ones”. So I had to come up with something to be able to scrap them all. So like that the flip on the left “was born”. And on the back side of the flip I had extra space for journaling. For title and text I used transparency film which after printing on I attached to page with double sided tape. For title I used Alexandra Zeferino One font and for text – Corona font.

“The Letter”
Tools and materials:
Patterned papers: My Mind’s Eye (Breeze “Fun day” Borderline Paper, Breeze “Precious” Motif Paper, Breeze “Everywhere” Mirrors Paper).
Tools: Blending tool with foam, Distress inks (Antique linen, Vintage photo), Transparency film for ink-jet printers, Epson printer.
Others: buttons, doily.

Page “The Letter”. This page came together by itself. I new I wanted to write the text by hand. It is part of the letter which my great aunt wrote to me by my request about history and roots of our family. Envelope and photo of my young great aunt are parts of the context and design. Again I used print on transparency film for the title. Font is Aqualine.

I loved this collection!! It was very easy to work with and I would definitely recommend it to everyone, especially those who loves heritage-vintage styles.

Have Your Share of Cardmaking Delights

     Our DT Lidiya's first ever Cardmaking class last month was literally swamped with a lot of interested students that we had to regrettably turn down a few more requests for slots. But fret no more, because for this month, she'll be holding not just one, but three classes for us here at Paper Lane!!!

    The first 2 sessions, to be held this coming Saturday, May 14 and Wednesday, May 18 will introduce the basic tips and techniques in Cardmaking and Stamping. It promises to be another fun-filled and knowledge-expanding class, if the sentiments of her previous class' students are anything to go by. They were so eager for another class under DT Lidiya that we had to make an Advanced Cardmaking class, the details of which we'll surely post soon!

     So for those of you who would like to acquire the latest cardmaking tips and techniques , do enlist for our DT Lidiya's Cardmaking Delights class - we guarantee that itl'l be a money well spent, as you'll surely acquire and expand your cardmaking skills and know how!

On a different , yet related front - we are so excited to present to you another class that would be a first for Paper Lane - The Wonders of Quilling!

Quilling, or paper filigree as it is known otherwise - is a delicate art craft that involves rolling, coiling and combining strips of paper to form unique designs - that may include flowers, butterflies, or basically anything that your imagination can create. You can then use them to embellish cards, tags, or form them into beautiful artworks for decorative purposes.

And to ensure that you'll get the best ever introduction to this dainty and intricate art form, we have UAE's foremost quilling educator and Emirati artisan Amna Al Fardh to lead the class.

A very active member of Emirates Quilling Guild, she is the UAE and Middle East's regional representative to the prestigious North American Quilling Guild.

Dear Paper Lane blog readers,

Let us take this opportunity to thank you for the very warm response that you've accorded to our DT Lidiya's first ever Card Making class which was hugely successful, to say the least. The participants learned a lot of techniques, had loads of fun, and are truly looking forward to more sessions! Well done Lidiya- you made us proud!☺

So now its the scrapbookers' turn to hone their layout skills- and this time it will be under the tutelage of our very own Jennifer Caldwell- who had consistently amazed us with her gorgeous layouts from Day 1 of her DT membership!
