The christmas holidays is fast approaching. Better be ready and create your greeting cards to send to your friends and loved ones. Handmade cards will add special personal touch to your greetings.

Paper Lane has prepared two easy cardmaking classes for you. Pick your choice!

Happy Holidays...The new Christmas line from Fancy Pants is a blast to play with! I love the bright funky mix of colours... and the splash of bright pink! A fun twist to Christmas stuff for sure! So let's gather around to make some exciting and fun christmas cards by mixing traditional colours with brights. You will have 4 new cards by using techniques such as checkered inking and broken glass. Along with this techniques you will also learn how to make a circle card and a purse card.

Merry Christmas!!!!! Basic Grey's Wassail patterned paper is a very traditional christmas collection. It has a countryhome and traditional feel to it. Here are the few cards which I have created using this collection. I have used origami to make 2 cards...It is a traditional japanese paper folding technique to create interesting shapes. And here I have created a christmas ornament and a christmas tree by using that technique. The other 2 cards are very simple and easy to create. There is false stitching detail in all 4 cards. It is nice to see how these cards turned out...very dimensional. Join me in this class and I assure you that you will find these techniques easy.

For this month's halloween design, our featured designer is Tingting N. Here are her stunning Halloween layouts!

"I've been wanting to scrap these photos of my eldest daughter for quite sometime, and at last, I found the perfect patterned paper to go with them. Isn't she an adorable witch?"

Too Cute To Spook

For this layout, I used my new Martha Stewart doily lace border punch for the patterned paper. Then I layered several pattern papers, added a lilac ribbon, and matted my daughter’s photo. I distressed the edges of the cardstock as well as the matting on the photo. To add texture, I stitched the cardstock with a frame-like design using purple DMC thread. It was also great fun cutting out the beautiful pumpkin and the title of this layout using my Silhouette SD machine. To add to the “witchy” theme, I also cut out several images of the witch on a broom (also with the Silhouette SD), glued them on top of each other, and placed it on top of a big yellow button from Basic Grey and used it as an embellishment with a 3D effect. I used paper piecing for the pumpkin, which is, essentially, cutting the different parts of the pumpkin in different sheets of cardstock according to their appropriate colors and put them together.
The most distinctive part of my layout is the journaling, which is in my own handwriting. Through this, I believe that I am sharing a little bit of myself, my personal touch.

Halloween!

I love these photographs of my daughter and her two cousins getting ready to go trick-or treating in costumes their grandmother made for them. I used green and black cardstock as background for this layout. I used another Halloween design for the two strips of paper at the top of the layout and purple cardstock for the strip at the bottom. I tore the pattern paper and distressed the edges using Tim Holtz Ranger distress ink-vintage paper. This distress ink is very useful for any layout or project. I layered the pattern papers and added the matted photos. Again, I patiently hand-stitched this layout with DMC thread to add texture. I used purple cardstock for the title to add contrast to the orange and black designs on the photos and pattern paper. Judi Kin's Diamond Glaze also always comes in handy for a dazzling effect. I cut 1/4 inch paper strips and wrote on them for my journaling. -Tingting Nivera

For trick-or-treat and halloween greetings, boxes and handmade card designs were made by the Paper Lane staff.

The cards are amazingly spooky, with spider, haunted house, bats, death eater, monster, ghost and more! The tricks will surely surprise you!

Boxes for treats or favors are inhabited with cute ghosts and bats! It will surely surprise youngsters asking for sweet treats this halloween.

We are glad to introduce to you Kinnari Zaveri: a cardmaker and scrapbooker. She had been paper crafting for several years already and has ever since fallen in love with the craft. Here's a brief introduction:

I moved to dubai 2 years ago from the United States. It has been great living in Dubai so far. I have always loved doing various kinds of arts and crafts.

I started paper crafting with scrapbooking after my precious daughter came into our lives. I love scrapbooking, cardmaking and making paper bags and decorating them. I have studied textile design so I love to incorporate all those background techniques in my work. I love patterned paper and inks. My style of work has clean cut shapes and colors along with a little bit of vintage twist.

I try to look for inspirations in everyday life and things. I’m quite the perfectionist and if I work at it long enough...I can get it alot closer to perfect (at least in my eyes). Paper craft has become a daily part of my life...whether it is cardmaking,scrapping or simply taking pictures...and I LOVE it all. Well, that’s probably more than you wanted to know...but that’s it in a nutshell! Thanks for reading a little about me.

The Vintage Scrapbooking Class

Take a trip down memory lane with us this Saturday at Paper Lane!

We will be exploring the world of "Vintage" - think of treasures or intriguing old papers that you found in your Grandma's closet in the attic.We will be utilizing mixed media - using paints, gesso, gel medium, modge podge and inks to create two beautiful projects - you will learn many techniques to make a 12 x 12 layout and an accordion booklet. The 12 x 12 layout will be a shabby white and silver based vintage collage and the accordion booklet is classic vintage - a la Tim Holtz!

What to bring along: 2-5 photos in size 6 x 4 black and white or sepia of the same theme (e.g.travel/old family photos), adhesive or glue. *You may also bring postage stamps, travel stubs interesting odds and ends that you would like to place on your layout.

We will provide: papers, paints, bits of lace, fabric, old costume jewelry (silver), ribbon, doilies, distress inks, embellishments, and free cutting of title in our die cuts/Silhouette SD machine. Coffee will also be served.

Design Inspirations

Hello Scrappers!

For this month's Design Inspirations, we are featuring Bo Bunny's 4 new CHA 09 collections, Delilah, Kitchen Spice, Flutter Butter and Gypsy ... all gorgeous and easy to work with.

Below we bring you the amazing layouts by the Design Team. We know you will totally love what they did!

TINGTING NIVERA

"I get my inspiration to scrap from a lot of things but I usually start with my pictures. I pick the best two or three and decide how I want to arrange them. Once I know how I want the page to look, I decide what pattern paper and embellishments to use. Flutter Butter is an awesome collection that went perfectly stunning with these photos of my kids laughing together!"

Havin’ A Good Laugh: "It is always a joy for us to hear our children’s laughter, all the more so when they are laughing together. That’s why I did this layout. Every time I see this page I can’t help but smile and I still hear echoes of their laughter."

"I used distress ink for the edges of paper and photo matting for this layout. Then I cut out designs on pattern paper and used rhinestones for embellishment. 3D dots are perfect to add dimension to these embellishments. For my journaling, I cut out ¼ inch strips of paper and used an acid-free pen. The exciting part is when I used my new Silhouette SD machine to cut out part of my title and the other part, I used white chipboard."

On my visits to Paper Lane, I've had always brought these photos of me and my childhood friends, but would always find a hard time choosing a collection to scrap it with. Then came this new BoBunny collection, and I knew it would look lovely as "Delilah".

Best Friends: "I wanted to highlight the long friendship I had with two girls I grew up with, so I used then and now photos. They make me feel nostalgic, remembering the good times we always had when we were together."

"I also used distress ink for the edges of paper and photo matting for this layout. Then I layered patterned papers from the BoBunny collection. It really coordinated with me and my friends’ color of clothes. The titles and swirls were cut using Silhouette SD machine. And I embellished this layout with coordinating flowers and brads from the collection. Again, I cut ¼ inch strips of paper for journaling."

TRACY BELLING

"I was so excited to work on a project utilizing the Bo Bunny Kitchen Spice Collection. The minute I saw the warm spicy colours and homespun feel, I was immediately transported back to my Aunty’s kitchen – one can practically smell the nutmeg, ginger, cloves and chocolate baking odours wafting through the air when you start creating! All my ingredients came together so naturally and it was a warm walk down memory lane while I put together a little cookbook mini-book project documenting my children’s favourite recipes “made by mum” which I included along with photo’s of them enjoying the goods over the years! I will give this little book to my daughter to use for her own children one day."

"I deliberately chose double-sided patterned papers to get maximum mileage out of my selection, I wanted each page to be slightly different yet matching, of course, I also painted some pages with acrylic paints and used flowers and co-coordinating ribbons extensively as well as the odd scrap cardstock I have that matched. The recipes were printed on transparency and mounted on the Bo Bunny Kitchen Spice Recipe Card cutouts, which are part of the range (how perfect!) so that you can see the gorgeous designs and colours underneath. For the Title page, I used the lettering and flower trellis stickers included on the combo sticker sheet. To make them really “pop” I added a glaze. I also used a piece of dry embossed paper with a hugs and kisses pattern on chocolate brown paper. I also sewed borders on some of the pages to add to the ‘homemade theme’ of the mini book. I also used the tabs on the combo sticker sheet to create index tabs on the various sections of the mini cookbook."

"This collection called “Gypsy”, has the rich colour blends of blues, oranges and browns makes me think of mysterious gypsies dressed in swirling skirts and glittering bangles. If you like Swirls, blings and brackets this layout is for you – a double page feast of colour inspired by all things we scrappers love. This layout can be used for any theme where richness and beauty are to be displayed. It also would look fantastic framed; you don’t always have to put your layouts in an album!"

"My photo’s of my family back home in an impromptu photo sheet at Sunset on the river at Amsterdamhoek was a perfect choice. I cut the swirls, and blocks–10 blocks in total. Designed my own combination of patterns in a grid – six blocks on the left hand, and four blocks on the right hand side. These meet in the middle edge of the two pages. Then I cut a strip from a plain piece (from one of the patterned cardstocks) and scallop only one long edge.
Work out the placement of all the elements: the blocks, swirls, strip at the bottom and two brackets as well as photos and stick down on the brown background cardstock when you are satisfied with the symmetry. Trim and block photos only if required. I sandpapered the edges of my larger portrait and landscape photos. Then I added a journaling block and write about the layout. It is so important for me that my handwriting appears for the generations to come and I always add the date. Before gluing down the elements, I chalk edge everything, to make them pop!
I completed my layout with words, photos brackets and journaling block. I used the Delilah white chocolate chip stickers from Basic Grey; I love these lettering sets, which come in four sheets of self-adhesive chipboard abc’s – you can find them in Paperlane. They are such good value for money and can definitely be used on multiple layouts. I altered the colour using paint and chalks. You can also add the Glossy Accents by Ranger to emphasize the swirls, brackets and/or letters of your title. I also tied ribbon around my letters as an extra touch. Decorate with the embellishments you gathered and make it pretty!"

"I hope you enjoy playing with Bo Bunny Gypsy as much as I did; it’s a stunning range which can be used with a less approach because the papers really are so eye-catching!"

Let's Meet: Tingting Nivera

Quite often I have hundreds of photos that I don’t get to look at or appreciate. I’ve discovered that by scrapping I get to choose the few photos that capture those precious moments and tell short snippets behind the memories. Scrapping has helped me highlight those precious moments as well as show them without overdoing it with a ton of photos.
I would like to share with you the joy I’ve found in this craft. Scrapbooking has some structure to it but it is also very personal and creative. It is my objective that you learn some of the techniques but use them in your own creative way and coax that creative side in you. I’d like you to go home with something uniquely your own and see your own precious moments from a different perspective.
I am Tingting Nivera. I am a preschool teacher by profession and worked until I had my first child. Since then I’ve been a full-time mom. I am happily married to a man who loves to take photographs, and have three daughters (aged 9, 4, 1) and a cat.

Hello there Scrapbookers!

We are very pleased to introduce to you one of Paper Lane's passionate instructors, Tracy Belling. A self-confessed scrapbook addict, Tracy works full time as an IT Architect and devotes her weekends to scrapbooking with her loving family. Please read on to know more about Tracy Belling.

Hi! My name is Tracy Belling and I would like to tell you a little about myself.
I have been lucky enough to live in Dubai for the past two years after being transferred here by my company from South Africa, with my husband and two wonderful teenagers who provide me with many great photo opportunities and are very cooperative scrapbooking subjects! We are so happy here in Dubai and just love the warm friendly people and enjoy living in this exuberant ‘United Nations” atmosphere with all the beautiful sights and sounds which just inspire me as a Scrapbooker.
Scrapbooking came to my life six years ago by chance, when somebody gave me a kit for my birthday. I opened it up and drank in the colours, shapes and designs and was instantly in love, despite never having been ‘arty’ before. I have not stopped since (except for my day job of course ) and have much experience to share with you. In my opinion, Scrapping is essential for our inner growth, peace and tranquility.
Learning new techniques and styles is a goal for me as a scrapper and I have attended seminars with many celebrity scrappers like Donna Downey and Wilna Furstenberg and I regularly attend international Scrapbook Workshops and classes. I have taught classes before in South Africa and I would love the opportunity to share with you as your scrapbook teacher!
I am very much a mixed media Scrapbooker and I like to work with paints, gel medium, sewing, rub-ons and especially stamps - it’s all about texture and visual appeal. Altered Books are also so rewarding to do. I would like to share my passion for turning your memories into art with you – come down the journey with me, don’t be afraid we will discover the wonders available to us together at Paperlane. Fancy Pants Summer Soiree Collection - We just love the vibrant colors and the wonderful patterns. Summer Soiree collection just screams summer fun!

I put my scraps to good use and made this cute card.

We received many inquiries about Scrapboking classes. Below is the schedule we have for you for the month of August.

BEGINNER'S SCRAPBOOKING CLASS

Prepare to become addicted to scrapbooking! Come and start the wonderful journey with us. Just bring your photos! Let's choose papers, an introduction to your toolbox, adhesive, embellishments, an easy guide to the color wheel, and easy design principles. The secret to journaling your thoughts or even just choosing the right headings to your page. We will introduce you to the basics and then let the muse take care of the rest!

When: August 19 and 26, 2009,Wednesday at 10:00am-1:00pm , Instructor: Rianna N.

August 22 and 29, 2009, Saturday at 10:30-1:00 pm , Instructor : Tracy B.

BEYOND THE BASICS

A follow-up workshop to Beginner's Class. We will help you develop your own style through fun techniques, embellishments and advanced layout ideas. You will learn how to combine patterned papers (layering) as well as incorporate a more complicated sketch into your scrapbook layouts. This will take your scrapbooking knowledge to a new level. Some topics covered include sketches, inking, stamping, embossing, distressing, flat and 3d embellishments.

You will walk away with a layout that look like you've been doing it for years.

Level : - Intermediate

Duration : 2 1/2 - 3 hours

Date and Time : Sunday 10:00-12:30 pm

What to Bring Along : adhesive and paper trimmer, 2-4 photos of the same event . All other materials are provided.

Summer Camp 2nd Batch

Paper Lane's Kids Summer Camp would like to thank you all dear parents for trusting us. We hope that your kids will enjoy 2 weeks of scrapbooking and cake decorating activities here in our cool camp!

We would like to apologize to those parents who are still calling to enroll their kids for our summer camp. We would really love to accommodate all of you, but we already have quite a handful of 30 enthusiastic kids! We are truly sorry about that. Paper Lane's main focus is to give your kids a unique camping experience, providing both one on one and group teachings in Scrapbooking, Creative Crafts and Cake Decorating.

But don't you worry dear parents! Paper Lane will continue to provide exciting and worthwhile scrapbooking activities that your kids will surely enjoy. Hang on and we'll keep you posted!
